Governors are volunteers who collectively make up the school’s Governing Body. The overall responsibility of the Governing Body is to support the school to provide the best possible education for all children. They provide a much valued role in raising standards to enable our children to achieve their full potential and keep them safe.
Governors attend at least three Full Governing Body meetings a year and sit on at least one Sub-Committee. Governing Bodies have a wide range of skills and experience.
Governors attend training courses provided by the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and Durham County Council Local Authority and the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust.
Governors oversee the financial performance of the school and manage the school’s admission criteria. As a Catholic School, seven of our Governors are Foundation Governors who preserve and develop the Catholic ethos of the school and ensure that the Catholic vision of the school is upheld.
Governors serve for four years although they may be re-appointed for a further period after this time.
If you require further information on the roles and responsibilities of School Governors or you are interested in becoming one, visit the Durham County Council website School Governor section.
Our Lady & St Joseph Brooms Catholic Primary School adhere to the statutory guidance from the Department for Education. This means that governing bodies must have regard to it when carrying out duties relating to the constitution of governing bodies in maintained schools. For further information about our governors, please view or download the documents below:
Please find below details of how our Governing Body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.
