Autumn Term

Our topic this  half term is 'We Remember'. We will be learning about Guy Fawkes, a significant person from the past, and how and why we celebrate Bonfire night as well as thinking about how we can stay safe. We will then use the story 'Where Poppies Now Grow' as a way of thinking about Remembrance day, we will be doing lots of art activities surrounding this then moving on the think about different aspects of WW1. Reception children will be able  access activities linked with the topic in the different areas of the classroom.

We will use our topic to lead our English lessons, using 'Where Poppies Now Grow' as a stimulus for sentence writing (Y1), writing our own poems about Remembrance Day , factual writing about Walter Tull and lots more!

Reception children will take part in Read Write Inc activities everyday , practising read and then writing letter sounds.

Reception and Year 1 children will have access to continuous provision indoors and outdoors throughout the day. Year 1 children will complete challenges within the areas to support their curriculum.

In Science we will explore animals including humans.

In PE we are doing Games and Dance.

During November we will participate in the Pontop Partnerships' Mission Week - there will be lots of exciting things going on in school during this week.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas we will begin to prepare for our Christmas Play! Watch this space!
